We really appreciated Mao’s tour yesterday. She grew up here and knows Takayama inside out. Before we met up with her, we walked around for a hour with a map, but could not connect with the city. My time in Takayama would have been less interesting if I didn’t book a tour with Mao-san. She’s a young and enthusiast guide. She has a surprising sense of humor.
